The Abacos

Abaco is an archipelago of islands in the Northeast Bahamas is situated 180 miles from South Florida. The island chain was founded by American Loyalists in 1783. The first settlements were established on mainland Abaco, a boomerang-shaped island approximately 120 miles long. Soon after, the loyalists discovered the protection of safe harbours on a string of outer cays protected offshore by the world's third largest barrier reef and villages emerged on the outer cays.

Beautiful beaches, quaint villages, diving, snorkeling, fishing and a relaxed way of life attract people from all of the world to this unique place. Abaco has a thriving tourism industry. Many visitors make annual trips to the islands. Rental homes are popular on the outer cays. As a result, Abaco has a strong real estate market.

Marsh Harbour, located on the mainland, is considered the city of Abaco. The main airport is located in Marsh Harbour. The outer islands include Elbow Cay (where you will find Hope Town), Lubbers Quarters, Man-O-War Cay, Great Guana Cay, and Green Turtle Cay.
