Our Guide to the Finest in Bahamian Oceanfront Living

At Graham Real Estate, we have found that most investors who wish to purchase a home in The Bahamas are searching for that picture-perfect, awe-inspiring, panoramic ocean view. The waters of The Bahamas offer much in terms of recreation, but for many, it is the splendour of their shimmering clarity and brilliant hues which are the main attraction.

In fact, the mostly shallow Bahamian waters are so famous that the astronauts on one of the Apollo missions were quoted as saying that the two landmarks which stood out most clearly from space were the Great Wall of China and the stunning collage of colours that surrounds our islands.

With this in mind, we embarked on a search for the very best waterfront properties in the country. You will find our favourites below.

The Abaco Club Bahama Palm Shores

#1906 | Abaco, Winding Bay, The Abaco Club

Only 170 miles east of Palm Beach, this idyllic peninsula is home to the magnificent Abaco Club, an ultra-exclusive members-only golf club and sporting retreat. With more than 3.5 miles of oceanfront, the view from anywhere on this property is glorious - whether you are standing in one of the luxurious turnkey cottages, have bought a seaside lot on which to build your dream home, or are just perfecting a putt on the championship links golf course. The shallow sea, revealing long stretches of sugar-like white sand, makes for a spectacular view. The circular bow of the bay keeps the waters mostly calm, so that the overall effect is one of blissful tranquility. Since this is a private members' hideaway, it is likely to remain unblemished for a long time to come.

#2215 | Abaco, Bahama Palm Shores

This extraordinary stretch of beach is located just 25 miles south of Marsh Harbour. More than eight miles long and unusually wide, it is the perfect standpoint from which to fully appreciate an elegant interplay of sea, sand and sky. This young, vibrant and growing community is unusually friendly even by Abaconian standards, and the gentle breeze is as refreshing to the senses as the sheer vastness of the view. The waters at Bahama Palm Shores literally engulf you, beckoning you to soak in its dazzling waves. Ideal for beachcombing and snorkeling, this spot makes our rating for being a true feast for the senses.

Gaulding Cay Cape Santa Maria

#1510 | Eleuthera, Gaulding Cay

Located in central Eleuthera, only half a mile from the historic Glass Window Bridge, Gaulding Cay is an exquisite secluded enclave typical of the pristine, soft beaches to be found along Eleuthera's rugged coastline. Lofty casuarina trees offer you respite from the sun, and as the wind whispers gently through their willowy branches, you will come to know genuine relaxation. The ocean here runs the full spectrum from green to blue with every possible shade in between. A jewel-like tiny cay in the middle of the bay creates an intimate, pool-like environment. At low tide you can walk to the cay and enjoy a 360º spectacle of crystalline waters lapping onto white sand. Bring your bathing suit (of course!), a bucket for shelling, and your snorkeling gear - having a close look at the multi-coloured carpeting of sun anemones on the ocean floor is a must.

#1834 | Long Island, Cape Santa Maria

Named after Christopher Columbus' flagship, which landed here in 1492, Cape Santa Maria has been hailed by National Geographic as boasting some of the very best beaches anywhere. Simply put, this is paradise still waiting to be discovered. Located on the northwest coast of Long Island, the cape offers mile after mile of immaculate beaches lined with lush green plant life. Rolling hills and a meandering harbour give enormous charm to this superb place, while hidden ocean caves make for a diver's delight. The colours of the water are so intense here that gazing upon them is a truly intoxicating experience. A great place both for water sports enthusiasts and those whose idea of a wonderful time is lounging on the beach and quietly soaking in the beauty of Mother Nature.

Old Fort Bay Cable Beach

#437 | New Providence, Old Fort Bay

This gated community on West Bay Street is just a few minutes east of Lyford Cay and encompasses what many locals will tell you is one of the loveliest beaches on the island. A true gem, this area was recently transformed into a world-class waterfront community. Old Fort Bay has much to offer, including a stylish new clubhouse - built on the site of a fort dating back to the 18th century - which adds more than a touch of glamour to the striking view. The coastline is dotted with ancient cliffs and hillside properties, giving it a distinctly Mediterranean feel. The special attraction of this bay is its diversity of spirit, as the view changes quite surprisingly, depending on the tides and the weather. When the sun illuminates the emerald hues of the ocean, it is hard to imagine a place more heavenly than this.

#193 | New Providence, Cable Beach

While buzzing with activity and glittery resorts, this world-famous promenade, known as 'The Bahamian Riviera,' retains one of the best sea views in The Bahamas – if you're lucky enough to live in one of the condo developments that dot the coastline. Find yourself a unit on one of the taller buildings, and you'll have an awe-inspiring view that proffers up a daily feast of ever-changing moods and colours. On a clear day you can literally see stingrays and schools of fish making their way parallel to the beach The beauty of the sea and the unusual rock formations here mean that Cable Beach made our list as - still - one of the most coveted places to live in New Providence.
